Ranting about Dexter (Spoilers)
Warning, this post contains spoilers from Dexter.
So, the current executive producer killed off Rita and fucked much of the established setting as a parting gift to his successor. Brilliant writing, I suppose, and it definitely has been getting the show a lot of discussion. My sympathies to whoever has to fill in the gaps next season, writing-wise, to figure out how Dexter is going to react to Rita's death.
Will the other kids stay with the grandparents? Will Dexter keep all three?
Curiouser and curiouser.
One of the things that initially attracted me to the show was sort of a "hooray for the bad guy" vibe I seemed to get from it. Yeah, he only kills other serial killers, but here was a show from the perspective of a broken person. Unfortunately, the plot seems to have humanized Dexter more and more as the seasons progressed, drawing him out of his little bubble and forcing him to begin to care more about the people he interacts with, previously only valuing them for their part in his disguise.
When the Trinity killer was revealed to have a similar disguise involving a perfect family, my interest in the show finally started to rise once more, but then the family was quickly shown to be extremely broken. I would have been far more interested if the guy actually managed to maintain a decent family cover while slipping away to murder around the country, with no huge freaking obvious cracks in his cover.
